About Us

A Basement Waterproofing Company That Does the Whole Job

SBW is a family-run waterproofing company based in Hendersonville, NC. Rafael runs every job. Lupita handles the communication. One crew does the work, start to finish. That’s been the model since day one, and it’s not changing.

Most waterproofing jobs get split between multiple subs: one digs, another waterproofs, a third handles drainage. When something goes wrong, nobody owns it. SBW handles the full scope with one crew so there’s one company accountable for the result.

Why We Do This

Before SBW, Rafael was running Moreno Demo and Cleanup. Homeowners and contractors kept calling with water problems, wet basement walls, drainage failures. He was already on the properties. He could see what was happening.

He spent a few years learning waterproofing the right way, working alongside an experienced professional who knew the details that matter: how to read a wall, how to prepare the surface, how to protect the membrane before it gets covered back up. When that mentor retired, Rafael bought the business.

When it came to waterproofing, he chose exterior only. Interior systems move water around after it’s already inside. He wanted to stop it before it got there.

Rafael Moreno, Operations Manager

Rafael personally oversees every waterproofing project. He’s involved in the assessment, the plan, the materials, and the application. He knows how the wall should look before the product goes on and what needs to be right before anything gets covered back up.

For homeowners, that means one person is accountable for the result. For contractors, it means a waterproofing partner who understands timelines, clean job sites, and the cost of a callback.

Rafael has been doing this work in these mountains for close to a decade. He’s waterproofed foundations in heavy clay soil, on steep sloped lots, on older block foundations and newer poured walls. The region throws a lot at a foundation. He knows what holds up.

Lupita Moreno, Office Manager

Lupita manages everything that keeps a job moving before the crew shows up. She handles scheduling, estimates, proposals, invoices, and customer communication. She’s usually the first person you’ll hear from when you reach out.

When a site visit needs a second set of eyes, Lupita goes out, takes measurements, and brings the details back so Rafael has what he needs to put together an accurate proposal.

If you have a question about your project, timeline, or paperwork, Lupita is who to call.

One Crew. No Handoffs. One Company Accountable

This is the thing that makes the most difference and gets talked about the least.

When you hire a basement waterproofing company that subs out the excavation, or brings in a separate drainage crew, or hands off the grading to someone else, you end up with four companies and no clear owner of the result. If something goes wrong, everyone points at the last person on the job.

SBW uses one crew for the full scope: excavation, wall prep, crack repair, membrane application, membrane protection, drainage, backfill, and final grading. Rafael oversees all of it.

That matters because every step affects the next one. A wall that isn’t clean won’t hold the membrane. Drainage that isn’t set up correctly leaves water sitting against the wall. Grading that sends water back toward the house undoes everything above it. When one crew does all of it, there are no gaps and no finger-pointing.

In close to a decade of waterproofing, Rafael has had exactly one warranty claim. It was caused by another contractor who damaged the system after installation. The work itself held up.
